AI SEO for a restaurant means getting your place onto the short list when someone asks ChatGPT or Google's AI where to go for a birthday, a family brunch or a late dinner. AI always names restaurants: in both of our studies, every answer named at least one. What decides whose names appear is mostly what other people write about you: TripAdvisor in the UAE, local food media in the US, plus a clear page of your own for each occasion.
How diners ask AI before they choose
Ten of the 100 restaurant questions from our two studies, word for word. Almost none ask for "the best restaurant in town". They name an area, an occasion, a budget or a time of night.
| Question, as asked | Where | Language | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Romantic restaurant with a view in Dubai for an anniversary? | UAE | English | specific |
| Best brunch in Dubai for families with kids? | UAE | English | specific |
| Cheap but good restaurants in JVC? | UAE | English | price |
| Restaurants open late near Downtown Dubai? | UAE | English | urgent |
| أفضل مطاعم هندية في النهدة؟ (our translation: best Indian restaurants in Al Nahda?) | UAE | Arabic | mixed |
| Best restaurant in Philadelphia for a birthday dinner? | Philadelphia | English | compare |
| Best brunch in Chicago for families with kids? | Chicago | English | specific |
| Restaurants open late in Chicago? | Chicago | English | urgent |
| Best healthy meal prep delivery in Nashville? | Nashville | English | specific |
| Mejores tacos en Miami (our translation: best tacos in Miami) | Miami | Spanish | mixed |
In the US set, the 40 English questions were 20 specific, 12 compare, 4 price and 4 urgent. Each occasion and each neighborhood produced a new set of names. That is why no restaurant was named in more than 3 of 50 answers in either market, and why a small place in the right guide can be named.
What AI relied on for restaurant answers: UAE and US
Both studies used Claude with Anthropic's live web search, each question asked once on 21 October 2026, because it lists every source it used. Our plans track ChatGPT and Gemini (Google AI).
| Claude with live web search | UAE (50 questions) | US (50 questions) |
|---|---|---|
| Answers naming at least one restaurant | 100% | 100% |
| Restaurants named per answer | 5.7 | 7.7, the most of 10 US industries |
| Answers that named no one | 0% | 0% |
| Restaurants' own and other websites | 51.0% | 14.6% |
| Review platforms | 23.3% (TripAdvisor) | 0.2% |
| Directories, booking and delivery sites | 15.8% | 21.4% |
| News, food and city guides | 1.3% | 42.6% |
| Spam-style pages on unrelated sites | Not a problem in UAE answers | 18.1% |
| Sources with a "best" or "top" style title | 65.1%, the highest of 10 UAE industries | 53.4% |
| Most cited site | TripAdvisor: 91 citations, 106 counting its other country sites, in 38 of 50 answers | OpenTable: 73 citations in 18 answers, 67 of them on its sites for other countries |
| Share of mentions taken by the five most-named places | 4% | 3.1% |
| Second language | Arabic: 4.9 per answer against 6.6 in English; 3 of 25 answers described restaurants in Saudi Arabia | Spanish: 7.2 per answer; 36.3% of sources were Spanish pages by our check, which also caught some Portuguese ones |
Full numbers: our UAE restaurant report and US restaurant report.
- Two markets, two backbones. UAE answers were built on TripAdvisor and area guides, including the property portals' blogs: Bayut (26 citations) and Property Finder (13) were cited in 27 of 50 answers. US answers were built on city media: Hoodline (10), the San Antonio Current (9), The Infatuation, Austinot and Miami New Times (7 each).
- Your own site matters less here than anywhere. Restaurants were the industry with the lowest share of own-site sources in both studies. A great website with no reviews and no guide mentions gives the assistant little to repeat.
- When it does read your page, it copies the numbers. One UAE answer quoted a JVC restaurant's "Average cost for two: AED 65" directly.
- Arabic names the place wrong when pages are thin. The Al Nahda question above was answered with Jeddah restaurants, because Al Nahda is also a district there.
Best restaurant in Tampa for a birthday dinner?
The search didn't identify a single "best" Tampa restaurant for birthdays. The results are mostly OpenTable listing pages, which rank places by reviews and bookings.
What a restaurant should publish
| Page | What it must say | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Menu as text | Dishes and prices written on the page, not only a PDF or a photo; cost for two; dietary options | Answers repeat plain numbers. A menu image gives them nothing to quote. |
| One page per occasion | Birthdays, family brunch, private room, view, late night, working from your cafe: what you offer, price per head, how to book | The questions ask by occasion, and the guides that answered them were titled the same way. |
| Hours and kitchen times | Opening hours and last orders as plain text, the same as on Google and your booking profile | US "open late" questions got 9.0 names per answer. Stated hours give the answer a fact it can check. |
| Location | Neighborhood, city and state, or area and emirate in English and Arabic ("النهدة، دبي") | Arabic answers left the UAE when the area name also exists in Saudi Arabia. |
| Booking and delivery links | Your reservation platform and delivery apps, under exactly the same restaurant name | A Nashville answer noted Capital Grille spelled "Capitol Grille" in some results. One spelling, everywhere. |
Then the technical basics. In our readiness study of the sites AI cited for UAE questions, restaurant sites were the weakest of 10 industries: 10.5% blocked an AI bot in robots.txt, the most of any industry, homepages had a median of 4,875 characters of text, and only 62.9% passed all seven of our basic checks. Add schema too. Schema is code in the page that tells machines what it is: a restaurant, its cuisine, price range, hours and booking link.
The directories and review sites that matter
- UAE: TripAdvisor first, by far. Then the area guides the answers read: MyBayut and Property Finder blogs, the Michelin Guide (15 citations, 12 of them in Arabic answers), TimeOut Dubai (13), Wanderlog (12) and dubairestaurants.guide (11). Zomato, Talabat and OpenTable also counted as directories.
- US: OpenTable was the one big directory, and its sites for Australia, Ireland, the UK and Singapore carried the same US city lists. Beyond that, your own city's media: alt-weeklies, city magazines, Eater, The Infatuation, Time Out and Hoodline. Spanish answers used El Diario NY, Univision and NYC Tourism's Spanish pages.
- Yelp and Google: 8 US answers told diners to check Yelp and 3 pointed to Google reviews or Maps, but none cited a page on either. Diners still check them before they book.
Booking platforms now matter in a second way. Google says AI Mode can find and book tables through partners such as OpenTable, Resy and Tock, for Google AI Ultra subscribers in the US through a Labs experiment (21 August 2025), and in the UK through partners including TheFork, SevenRooms, ResDiary and OpenTable (10 April 2026). Perplexity added booking through OpenTable on 4 August 2025, with a Reserve button inside the answer. If your booking profile is missing or wrong, the assistant cannot book you.
Marketing rules that apply to restaurants
A summary, checked against the sources below on 22 October 2026. It is not legal advice.
- Google, everywhere. Google's fake engagement policy bans offering incentives "such as payment, discounts, free goods and/or services" for any review, discouraging negative reviews, selectively asking happy guests, and pressuring guests to review while on the premises. So no free dessert for a review, and no "review us at the table" pressure.
- United States. The FTC's final rule of 14 August 2024 bans fake reviews (AI-generated ones included), rewards tied to a positive or negative review, undisclosed reviews by staff, suppressing reviews with threats or intimidation, and buying fake followers or views.
- US chains. Under FDA menu labeling, restaurants in a chain of 20 or more locations under the same name must show calories for standard items on menus and menu boards, post the 2,000-calorie statement, and give fuller nutrition information on request. Keep the calories on your web menu the same as in the restaurant.
- United Kingdom. The Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 (Schedule 20) bans submitting or commissioning fake reviews or concealed incentivised reviews, and publishing reviews in a misleading way, and it requires traders to take reasonable steps to stop them.
What we would do, month by month
- Day 1. We agree your commercial questions with you: occasion, cuisine and neighborhood, such as "birthday dinner in [your area]" or "open late near [your area]". We record who ChatGPT and Gemini (Google AI) name today, with dated screenshots.
- Month 1. Technical basics: robots.txt lets the AI search bots in (OAI-SearchBot is the one ChatGPT search uses), the menu and hours are text on the page, schema is in place, and your name, address and hours match on your site, Google Business Profile and booking platform. Then the first occasion pages.
- Month 2. More occasion and area pages, in Arabic too on Growth and Authority. On Growth and Authority we also clean up TripAdvisor, OpenTable and your delivery listings, and set up an honest way to ask every guest for a review.
- Month 3. We re-check the same questions. On Growth and Authority we send your facts (area, cuisine, price for two, signature dishes, hours) to the editors of the guides your answers read. We never buy or promise placements in them.
- Day 90. We compare your score with day one. You keep going, change the plan or stop.

The audit is 100% credited to month one if you sign within 30 days. Every plan includes traditional SEO and Google Business Profile work, runs month to month with no lock-in and no setup fee, and is 10 to 15% off when you pay yearly. USD details are at adjoltz.com/us; AED prices are on our homepage.
Which plan fits, bluntly: restaurant answers are built from reviews, listings and guides, and that outside work is in Growth and Authority, not Foundation. On Foundation we fix your site and Google Business Profile and your team keeps TripAdvisor and OpenTable current. Clicks are cheap for restaurants (in the UAE, under AED 6 at the top of the bid range for the searches we checked), so for one small cafe our plans may cost more than the work returns. Groups with several branches, and places that live on bookings for occasions, get the most from it. Growth also adds Arabic, which UAE and Gulf diners use. The free AI check costs nothing: 10 real buyer questions on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI, with the result on WhatsApp in about 10 minutes during Dubai working hours.
How we work: Adjoltz is a Dubai team (Adjoltz FZE, Ajman Free Zone licence 58339) with no office outside the UAE. We work remotely on WhatsApp and email, with video calls for the day-one and day-90 reviews, and invoice in USD or AED from the UAE. We need access to your website, Google Search Console and Google Business Profile, your current menu and prices, and one person who approves pages quickly. We write in English, and in Arabic on Growth and Authority. We do not write or track Spanish pages.
Our guarantee. In the first 30 days of any plan, if ChatGPT, Gemini (Google AI) or Google's AI answers do not name you for at least 3 commercial questions on the list you approved, or you are unhappy for any other reason, we refund 100% of what you paid, in cash, within 7 working days. No lock-in after that. The rules are on our guarantee page.
What we don't promise
- No "you'll be first on ChatGPT". No one can promise how an assistant answers.
- No guaranteed Google rankings, covers or bookings.
- No placements in any guide or publication, and no paid spots on "best of" lists.
- No fake reviews, and no reviews paid for with discounts or free food.
- No Spanish pages, no office outside the UAE, and no partnership with OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, OpenTable or TripAdvisor. We have none.
