A law firm gets named by ChatGPT and Gemini (Google AI) when its pages explain a client's exact situation clearly: which law applies, what the steps are, what it costs, and who at the firm handles it, in English and Arabic. People ask AI about their problem before they ask for a lawyer, and AI explains before it recommends. Since 2025, federal rules also set how lawyers may promote themselves, so every page has to inform, not solicit.
What clients actually ask AI before they call a lawyer
This is the starting list we use for law firms and legal consultants. We change it by practice area, emirate and the courts you appear in, and you approve the final list before we track it. Most of these are not "best law firm" questions. They are a person in trouble, describing their problem.

How AI decides which firm to name
- It explains first, then names. For a legal question, AI usually answers the question itself, then suggests getting a lawyer. In our view, the firm whose page supplied that explanation is the natural one to name. Google says its AI runs several related searches across subtopics, which it calls "query fan-out", so a page about one exact situation (unpaid salary, a travel ban, a non-Muslim divorce) gets pulled in where a general practice page doesn't.
- Old law travels. UAE legal rules have changed fast: a new labour law from February 2022, bounced cheques treated mainly as a civil debt since January 2023, a new federal Personal Status Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 41 of 2024). In our search, one result's summary still gave an outdated age limit for DIFC wills. AI repeats what it finds, so a dated, reviewed page is worth more than an old one that ranks.
- Trust comes from outside. For "best lawyer" questions, AI leans on lists and directories. Then the client asks "is this firm good?", and AI sums up the few reviews it can find in one line.
What we saw in search results on 21 Oct 2026
We ran 9 of the questions above through a web search tool on 21 Oct 2026. This is what search returned, not what ChatGPT answered, but AI tools that search the web pick sources from pools like this. Our tool searches from outside the UAE, so a browser in Dubai may show a different order.
| Question we searched | What came up | What stood out |
|---|---|---|
| Best family lawyer in Dubai for divorce | 8 firm practice pages, 1 firm article on a directory site | A firm-written "best divorce lawyer" article on a legal directory recommended its own author. |
| How much does a divorce lawyer cost in Dubai | 8 firm pages, 1 directory | Every fee figure came from firms. One office ranked twice with two exact-match domains. |
| How to check if a lawyer is licensed in Dubai | Firm blogs, a legal marketplace, an anonymous blog | No government page, though Dubai's Legal Affairs Department runs an official search. |
| Non-Muslim expat divorce Dubai, which law applies | Firm articles, some republished on Mondaq and JD Supra | The official u.ae divorce page didn't appear. |
| Travel ban Dubai lawyer urgent | 7 firm pages, 2 directories | No police, immigration or court page. |
| Employer not paid salary 3 months UAE | Q&A sites, info blogs, Gulf News "Ask Us", 1 firm | The only query with a news Q&A column. MOHRE's own site didn't appear. |
| Do I need a DIFC will | 5 firms, 4 wealth, setup and property firms | One summary gave outdated eligibility facts. |
| أفضل محامي أحوال شخصية في دبي | 4 firm pages, 5 Arabic directories and lists | The same lawyer led both the English and Arabic lists. |
| كم أتعاب المحامي في قضايا الطلاق في الإمارات | Firms and Arabic legal directories | No official fee source at all. |
- Firms write the answers. 45 of 81 results (56%) were firm pages or blogs, plus firm articles republished on other sites.
- Government pages: 0 of 81, even for licence checks, unpaid salary and DIFC wills, which all have official pages. No Reddit or forum threads either.
- Arabic is directory-heavy. Directories and lists took 10 of 18 Arabic results.
- "Best" self-labels are everywhere, in both languages. Read the rules below before copying that.
The rules on how lawyers may promote themselves
Checked on 21 Oct 2026 against the federal law, its 2025 regulations and Dubai and DIFC sources. This is a summary, not legal advice. Your own firm, and your regulator, have the final word.
- Federal Decree-Law No. 34 of 2022 bars a lawyer from promoting themselves "in any manner that goes against the ethics of the profession", or through intermediaries. It also fines anyone who, for a commission, entices clients to a lawyer: AED 20,000 to 200,000.
- The 2025 Executive Regulations (Cabinet Resolution No. 8 of 2025) list a firm's own website and social media channels among the allowed ways to promote. They ban false, misleading or fabricated information on social media, and limit titles on printed materials and signs to academic qualifications, professional experience and the level of court the lawyer can argue before.
- The 2025 Code of Ethics (Cabinet Resolution No. 9 of 2025) covers legal consultants too. Promotion must not be misleading or compromise client privacy, and lawyers should not share legal interpretations on social media in a way that may lead people to misread the law.
- Dubai. The Legal Affairs Department's Circular 1 of 2024 told firms to stop marketing through representatives and intermediaries in a way that discredits the profession.
- DIFC. The DIFC Courts' Mandatory Code of Conduct (Order No. 2 of 2025) has no advertising clause; its press rule is about not prejudicing a fair trial.
- Who can appear where. In Dubai, an advocate must be a UAE national, and a legal consultant's services exclude representing clients before the Dubai courts. The DIFC keeps its own register with rights of audience before the DIFC Courts.
- Checking a licence. Dubai's Legal Affairs Department has a free search for advocates and legal consultants, and Dubai Courts publishes a lawyers list.
What this means for AI SEO: explain the law accurately, name the reviewing lawyer, state titles the way the regulations allow, and keep client details out. We are paid a fixed monthly fee, never a commission per client.
The pages a law firm needs
Schema is code in the page that tells Google and AI what the page is: a law firm, a lawyer, an article. Every page below is written to inform, and a lawyer at your firm reviews it before it goes live.
| Page | Example title | What it must include | Schema |
|---|---|---|---|
| Situation guide | Unpaid salary for 3 months in the UAE: the steps, in order | The official route first, time limits, documents to collect, when a lawyer adds value, reviewing lawyer and date | Article with author and reviewedBy |
| Which law applies | Divorce as a non-Muslim expat in Dubai: which law applies in 2026 | The law by name and number, how it differs by emirate, links to the official text | Article, about Legislation |
| Lawyer profile | [Name], Advocate, Dubai: family and inheritance cases | Licence type, the courts they can appear before, languages, qualifications, practice areas | Person with hasCredential and knowsLanguage, worksFor your LegalService |
| Practice page | Employment disputes in Dubai and Abu Dhabi | The cases you take and don't take, the authorities involved, how a first consultation works | LegalService (schema.org has deprecated Attorney) |
| Fees and process | How our fees work: consultation, fixed fees and court stages | How a consultation is priced, which stages cost extra, court and translation costs on top | WebPage, Offer for any fixed fee |
| Arabic twin | الرواتب المتأخرة في الإمارات: الخطوات بالترتيب | The same facts, written in Arabic by a lawyer, using the terms in the law itself | Same schema, inLanguage ar, hreflang to the English page |
The fees page fills a real gap: in our search, every divorce fee figure came from firms and directories, and no official source appeared. An honest explanation of how you price is more useful to AI, and to clients, than "contact us for a quote".
Reviews and reputation
Many clients don't want anyone to know they needed a lawyer, so reviews come slowly and each one counts. Start with a Google Business Profile for each office. Directories matter too: in our search, firm articles on Legal 500, Global Law Experts, Mondaq and JD Supra ranked, and Arabic directories took most Arabic results. A reply to a bad review must never reveal client details. Google lets you ask for honest reviews, not pay for them or ask only happy clients.
Why Arabic matters for law firms
- Arabic is the official language under Article 7 of the UAE Constitution. Arabic pages that use the exact terms in the law match how Arabic speakers search for their problem.
- The Arabic results are thin. Directories and self-made "top" lists took most of them in our search. A firm with clear Arabic situation guides has room to lead.
- AI reads your page code, not your browser translation. A translation plugin leaves no Arabic text for ChatGPT to read. On 20 and 21 Oct 2026, our own tracking counted 4 visits from ChatGPT links to adjoltz.com, and one landed on an Arabic blog post.
Common mistakes
- Practice pages that list areas and explain nothing. "We handle family, criminal and commercial matters" answers no question.
- Old law still live. A 2019 article ranking for a 2026 question can be worse than no article.
- No lawyer names, or the wrong titles. Clients and AI want to know who handles the case, their licence and their courts.
- Blurring advocates and legal consultants. If a page suggests a consultant can appear in a court they can't, AI may repeat it, and a client may rely on it.
- Superlatives and promises. "Best divorce lawyer, 100% success" sits badly with rules against misleading promotion. Let outside sources call you good.
- Blocking AI crawlers by accident. OpenAI says sites that want to appear in ChatGPT search should allow its OAI-SearchBot crawler. We check on day one.
