AI SEO for accountants means getting your firm named when a business owner asks ChatGPT or Gemini which CPA, bookkeeper or tax preparer to use, for their exact need, in their city. In our US study, accounting was the one industry where firms' own websites led the answers: 49.2% of sources. Two firms with a page for every service and city were cited 85 times between them.
So the work is simple to describe: one plain page per service and place, credentials anyone can check, a fee range, and the right directory profiles, inside the rules of your licensing board.
How clients ask AI before they pick an accountant
These questions come from our US study, copied word for word. Our UAE study did not include accountants, so we have no UAE questions to show. By intent, the 40 English questions were 20 specific, 12 compare, 4 price and 4 trust: most people describe their situation, not a ranking.
| Question, as asked | City | Language | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best CPA in Phoenix for real estate investors? | Phoenix | English | specific |
| Who can help me with IRS back taxes in Nashville? | Nashville | English | specific |
| How much does a tax preparer cost in Orlando, and who is good? | Orlando | English | price |
| Which tax preparation service in Dallas has the best reviews? | Dallas | English | trust |
| Which accounting firm in Boston is the best for startups? | Boston | English | compare |
| Best bookkeeping service for a small business in Atlanta? | Atlanta | English | specific |
| Top payroll service for small businesses in Philadelphia | Philadelphia | English | compare |
| Mejor contador en Tampa que hable español para mi negocio (our translation: best Spanish-speaking accountant in Tampa for my business) | Tampa | Spanish | mixed |
| ¿Dónde preparan impuestos baratos en Austin? (our translation: where can I get cheap tax preparation in Austin?) | Austin | Spanish | mixed |
For UAE firms, these are our examples, not from a study: "Which accounting firm in Dubai can register my company for corporate tax?", "How much does VAT return filing cost for a small business in Sharjah?" and أفضل مكتب محاسبة في دبي للشركات الصغيرة؟ (our translation: best accounting office in Dubai for small companies?).
What AI relied on for accounting answers
Our studies used Claude with Anthropic's live web search, one run per question, on 21 October 2026, because it lists every source. Our plans track ChatGPT and Gemini (Google AI). With no UAE accounting data, the fair comparison is accountants against all US industries, and against the UAE study as a whole. Numbers are copied from our US accountants report, the US study and the UAE study.
| Claude with live search | US accountants (50 questions) | US, all 10 industries (500) | UAE, all 10 industries (500, no accountants) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Answers naming at least one business | 94% | 93.8% | 92.0% |
| Businesses named per answer | 5.5 | 5.2 | 4.3 |
| Answers that named no one | 6% | 6.2% | 8.4% |
| Businesses' own and other websites | 49.2% | 29.0% | 79.4% |
| Directories and lists | 33.4% | 37.3% | 9.5% |
| Spam-style pages on unrelated sites | 6.3% | 15.9% | Not a type in the UAE study; 16 of 4,634 sources were flagged |
| Businesses named in only one answer | 79.4% of 189 firms | 92.5% | 81% to 98%, by industry |
| Second-language sources in that language | 8.7% Spanish | 23.8% Spanish | 90.2% Arabic |
- Accounting is the least open US industry. 79.4% of firms were named once, against 92.5% across the study, because two firms' own pages filled whole answers. In Phoenix and Los Angeles, one tax firm's site was most of the sources in 7 of 10 answers.
- Volume gets you cited; facts get you trusted. The answers used those location pages, then warned about them. Uncle Kam was named in 9 answers, yet one answer said it could not verify a certification its pages relied on.
- Writing the list is not the same as being on it. A firm that writes "top ranked accounting firms in Boston" style guides was cited in 14 answers, more than any other site, and named in only 2.
- Price is the gap. Tax preparer cost questions named 1.3 firms per answer. A dated "from" price is the fact the answer looks for.
- In the UAE, own sites carry the answer. Across all industries, 79.4% of live-search citations were businesses' own and other websites, and 90.2% of the citations in Arabic answers were Arabic pages.
Best CPA in Phoenix for real estate investors?
The search turned up no independent rankings of Phoenix CPAs. Every result came from one firm, KDA Inc., and its marketing pages, so treat its claims as self-promotion.
Read that twice. The firm was the only name in the answer, and the answer still told the reader not to take its word for it. Pages win the mention; checkable facts make the mention worth having.
What an accounting firm should publish
Schema, below, is code in the page that tells machines what the page is. For a firm, the AccountingService type, with your address, services and the area you cover, and an entry for each preparer that names the firm.
| Page | What it must say | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Service and city, such as "IRS back taxes help in Nashville, Tennessee" | Who it is for, what you do step by step, what you need from the client, who handles it, the city and state | The two most cited firms did exactly this and took whole answers |
| Preparer profiles and credentials | Each person's name, CPA license and state, enrolled agent status, PTIN, and a link to the official lookup | Answers told readers to check CPA licenses, enrolled agent numbers and PTINs, and flagged claims they could not verify |
| Fees | A "from" price for a self-employed return, a typical IRS resolution fee, monthly bookkeeping by size, and the date | Price questions named 1 or 2 firms, often the one whose page gave a number |
| Client type pages | Startups, LLCs, real estate investors, self-employed: what you do differently for each | Many questions named a client type, such as startups, LLCs or real estate investors |
| Spanish or Arabic page | "Contador en Austin, Texas que habla español", or an Arabic page for UAE owners, with services and prices | Both US questions asking for a Spanish-speaking accountant found no firm at all |
| UAE tax pages | Corporate tax and VAT services by emirate, with your Federal Tax Authority tax agent approval number | The FTA publishes a searchable register of tax agents, each with a TAAN (tax agent approval number) and emirate |
Basics first: make sure your site lets the AI search bots in and that your text is in the HTML. Our AI readiness study lists what the sites AI already cites get right. For UAE firms that also sell company setup, our page on AI SEO for business setup in the UAE covers the tax facts AI gets wrong.
The directories and review sites that matter
- Local directories (US): Lantern (26 citations in 10 answers), Expertise.com (21 in 11), Thumbtack (18 in 9) and Bark. Directories appeared in 38 of 50 answers.
- Business review directories: GoodFirms (17), Clutch (12) and ClearlyRated (10), the same sites agencies use, sitting next to the local directories in the same answers.
- Forums: real estate CPA questions were answered from BiggerPockets threads (19 citations). Useful replies there under your own name, with your firm and city on your profile, sit in a source the answer already reads.
- Reviews were mentioned, not read. 8 answers mentioned Yelp and 14 Google reviews or Maps; none cited a Yelp page and 1 cited a Google business page. Clients still check them next.
- UAE: we have no accounting data. Across the UAE study, directories were 9.5% of citations, so your own pages and your Google Business Profile come first.
Marketing rules that apply to accountants
A summary, checked against the sources below on 22 October 2026. It is not legal or tax advice; your board of accountancy and the IRS have the final word.
- AICPA Code, 1.600: a member in public practice shall not seek clients by advertising that is false, misleading or deceptive. Promotion is treated as misleading if it creates false or unjustified expectations of favorable results, implies the ability to influence a court or regulatory agency, or quotes a fee when it was likely the fee would rise a lot without telling the client. If a third party brings you its clients, you should check that its promotion follows the rule too.
- The CPA title is controlled by each state. The AICPA Code points to state accountancy laws. In New York, for example, only a licensed person may use the title certified public accountant or the letters CPA, and a firm may use CPA in its name only if each owner is a CPA in good standing.
- IRS Circular 230, section 10.30: no false, fraudulent, coercive, misleading or deceptive statement in any IRS matter. Enrolled agents may not use the word certified or imply they work for the IRS; "enrolled to practice before the Internal Revenue Service" is an accepted description. If you publish fees, you may charge no more than those rates for at least 30 calendar days, and copies of direct mail and e-commerce communications must be kept for at least 36 months.
- Preparers can be checked. The IRS says anyone with a PTIN can be a paid preparer, and its Directory of Federal Tax Return Preparers lets the public find those with credentials. That is a reason to put your credentials on the page.
- Reviews: the FTC's 2024 rule bans fake reviews, paying for reviews that say something in particular, undisclosed insider reviews and using threats to get negative reviews removed.
- UAE: the Federal Tax Authority publishes its register of tax agents. We found no UAE advertising rule specific to accountants to summarise here, so ask your own adviser.
What we would do, month by month
- Day 1. We agree the commercial questions with you, by service, client type and city, such as "tax accountant for self-employed people in Orlando". We record who AI names today, with screenshots.
- Month 1. Site fixes so AI can read you: crawler access, AccountingService schema, one name, address and phone everywhere, and your Google Business Profile. Then the first pages: your top services by city, a fees page and a profile for every preparer, with licenses and PTINs.
- Month 2. Client type pages (startups, LLCs, investors, self-employed) and more cities. On Growth and Authority we clean up Lantern, Thumbtack, GoodFirms, Clutch and the other profiles AI read. Day 30 is the guarantee check.
- Month 3. Mentions on trusted outside sites (Growth and Authority), earned with useful guides, never bought. We fix pages based on what the answers repeated or doubted, and re-check the list.
- Day 90. We compare your score with day one. You keep going, change the plan or stop. Ideally this lands before your busy season.

| Mentions on trusted outside sites | Not included | Not included | Every 2 months | Every month |
The audit is 100% credited to month one if you sign within 30 days. Every plan includes traditional SEO and Google Business Profile work, runs month to month with no lock-in and no setup fee, and is 10 to 15% off when you pay yearly. USD details are at adjoltz.com/us; AED prices are on our homepage.
Which plan fits an accounting firm. Your own pages carried accounting answers more than in any other US industry, so Foundation, with 100 pages written or refreshed a month, fits most English-only firms. If you want us to do the directory work too, that is Growth, which also tracks Arabic; that helps only if your clients ask in Arabic. A UAE firm selling to Arabic-speaking owners will usually want Growth.
How we work. Adjoltz is a Dubai team (Adjoltz FZE, Ajman Free Zone licence 58339) with no office outside the UAE. We work remotely on WhatsApp and email, with video calls for the day-one and day-90 reviews, and invoice in USD or AED from the UAE. We need access to your site, Search Console and Google Business Profile, and one person who approves pages. We write in English, and in Arabic on Growth and Authority. We do not write or track Spanish pages, so if your clients ask in Spanish, add a native Spanish writer.
Our guarantee. In the first 30 days of any plan, if ChatGPT, Gemini (Google AI) or Google's AI answers do not name you for at least 3 commercial questions on the list you approved, or you are unhappy for any other reason, we refund 100% of what you paid, in cash, within 7 working days. No lock-in after that. The rules are on our guarantee page.
What we don't promise
- That you will be first on ChatGPT. OpenAI says placement in ChatGPT search "is not guaranteed".
- Guaranteed Google rankings.
- Paid places on "best accountant" lists.
- Fake reviews, or reviews paid for a good rating.
- New clients, returns filed or a revenue figure.
- Tax, legal or compliance advice. We write the pages; your licensed staff check every claim.
- An office outside the UAE, or a partnership with OpenAI, Google or Anthropic. We have none.
