Social SEO is making your profiles and posts easy to find when people search, inside TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and the other apps, and on Google. You do it by putting the words your buyers actually search into your profile name, bio, captions, spoken audio, on-screen text and video titles, and by posting the same facts (prices, areas, hours, phone) that your website shows.
It is not a replacement for website SEO. In our October 2026 studies of 1,500 buyer questions, under 1% of the sources one AI assistant cited were social posts. The two work together: the app and Google find your profile, and your website and listings carry the facts AI quotes.
What social SEO actually is, and what it is not
People now type questions into the search bar of the apps they already have open. "Brunch Dubai Marina", "best nail salon JLT", "2 bed apartment tour Riyadh". The app decides which videos and profiles to show, using the words in and around each post. Google does the same with the social posts it can see. Social SEO is the work of making those words clear and true.
Social SEO is
- A profile name and username buyers can find
- A bio that says what you do, where, and for whom
- Captions, spoken words and on-screen text that match the search
- Titles, descriptions and chapters on YouTube
- The same facts on every profile and on your site
- Profiles linked from your website with schema
Social SEO is not
- Chasing viral reach or follower counts
- Thirty hashtags under every post
- Hidden keywords in tiny text
- Fake accounts, bought likes or bought upvotes
- A substitute for a website with real facts
- A promise of sales from one video
The second column matters. TikTok's own Creator Academy calls the hidden keyword trick "most definitely a myth" and warns that "adding unrelated text to your video in this way can get your video flagged for spam."
The basics that apply to every platform
Before you touch a single platform, write down three things. You will paste them everywhere.
- Your search phrases. The five to ten phrases a buyer types, in their words, not yours. "Physiotherapy JVC", not "holistic movement wellness". Add the Arabic phrases if you sell to Arabic speakers.
- Your fact sheet. Business name exactly as on your trade licence or Google Business Profile, phone in one format (for the UAE, +971 then the number), areas served, opening hours, starting prices, and your website address.
- Your one line. What you do, where, for whom, in under 15 words. "Kids' dentist in Al Barsha. Open 7 days. Prices from AED 250." This becomes your bio on every app.
Why the fact sheet? In our tracking, AI answers and buyers both trip over mismatched facts: an old phone on Instagram, a different price on TikTok, a closed branch on Facebook. When one profile disagrees with your site, nobody knows which to trust.
TikTok
TikTok is a search engine for a lot of people. Adobe's 2026 survey of 807 US consumers found 49% had used TikTok as a search engine, up from 41% in 2024. In a 2024 Pew study, 62% of adult TikTok users in the US said they use it to look at product reviews or recommendations. TikTok also sells keyword ads on its search results page: TechCrunch reported the launch of Search Ads Campaign on 24 September 2024, and TikTok's help centre says it "uses keywords to help you reach people searching for specific terms."
What to do
- Name and username. Your display name can include a plain search word: "Layla Dental | Kids Dentist Dubai". Keep the username short and the same as on Instagram where you can.
- Bio. Your one line, plus your area and a link to your website or WhatsApp.
- Say the search phrase. TikTok tells creators to use "your video's description, voiceovers, captions, and on-screen text to make it clear just what your video's all about." So say "brunch in Dubai Marina" out loud in the first seconds, show it as a text overlay, and write it in the caption.
- Captions (subtitles) on. Turn on auto captions and correct them. Wrong subtitles put wrong words on your video.
- Hashtags as labels. TikTok says "overloading your caption with loosely related keywords or hashtags can actually work against you." Use a few that describe the post: #dubaimarina #brunchdubai.
- Use Creator Search Insights. TikTok says it shows "trending topics people are searching for" and lets you filter by what your followers search. TikTok says you need 1,000 followers to see the followers' topics. Pick topics people search where few good videos exist yet.
- Pin your three best answers. Pin videos that answer the top buyer questions: price, location, how to book.
Instagram changed the most in 2025. Instagram's help centre says it asks search engines not to index users' photos and videos, except from accounts that are over 18, public and professional. Since July 2025, public posts and reels from those business and creator accounts can show up in Google and Bing. The Week reported that posts from 1 January 2020 onwards are covered, and that Stories, Highlights and comments are not.
The Google indexing setting. If your account is a public professional account, indexing is allowed unless you turn it off in your account privacy settings. Leave it on for a business. Instagram also says that even with it off, "your profile information, including your username, profile picture and bio information, may still appear" in search results. So the bio matters either way.
What to do
- Switch to a professional account (business or creator). Personal and private accounts are not indexed.
- Name field. The name field is separate from your username, so use it for your business name plus one search word: "Sahara Fitness | Ladies Gym Riyadh".
- Category and contact. Pick the closest category, add your address if you have one customers visit, and your phone in the same format as your website.
- Captions that read like answers. Start with the search phrase and the facts: "Ladies gym in Al Malqa, Riyadh. Classes from 6am. Monthly membership SAR 450." Google can now show this text, so write it for a stranger, not just followers.
- Alt text. Where the app lets you write alt text (a short description of an image), describe what is in the photo in plain words, including the place.
- Location tags on every post from a real place.
- Arabic captions. For Gulf buyers, write the caption in Arabic and English, not one translated badly. Arabic searches have far fewer good results to compete with.
- Pinned posts and Highlights. Pin your price post, your location post and a review post. Name Highlights plainly: "Prices", "Location", "Reviews".
YouTube
YouTube matters for two reasons: people search inside it, and AI search engines cite it more than any other social platform. BrightEdge measured YouTube at a 29.5% citation share in Google AI Overviews and 16.6% in AI Mode between May 2024 and September 2025, but only 0.2% in ChatGPT. Ahrefs, counting differently in June 2025, found YouTube at 9.5% of AI Overview mentions and 16.1% in Perplexity. The numbers differ because the methods differ, but the direction is the same: Google's AI features lean on YouTube.
What to do
- Titles that match the question. "How much does Invisalign cost in Dubai? (2026 prices)" beats "Our Smile Journey Ep. 4".
- Descriptions with facts. First two lines: the answer, the price range, the area, the link. Then more detail.
- Chapters. YouTube's rules: list timestamps in the description, the first must start at 00:00, you need "at least three timestamps listed in ascending order", and each chapter must be at least 10 seconds. Google says it "will prioritize key moments set by you", including through "the YouTube description", which is how your chapters can show as key moments in Google.
- Transcripts and subtitle files. Upload a corrected subtitle file, in Arabic as well as English if you speak both. Auto captions get names, areas and prices wrong.
- Playlists by question. "Prices", "Before and after", "Neighbourhood guides". A playlist title is one more place for the search phrase.
- Read the search report. YouTube says "the YouTube search report shows you what terms viewers searched when they found your content", on the "Traffic source: YouTube Search" card in the Reach tab.
For B2B buyers, LinkedIn is where AI tools look. Semrush's study of more than 230,000 prompts from July to October 2025 found LinkedIn among the top five most cited domains in ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Perplexity, cited in nearly 15% of AI Mode responses. In our own Saudi study, 18 of the 26 social sources the AI cited were LinkedIn, and in the US study both social sources were LinkedIn.
- Company page. The tagline and About section should say what you do, where, and for which industries, with the same name and website as everywhere else.
- Founder and staff profiles. Headlines that say the job in buyer words: "Corporate lawyer, DIFC, employment and shareholder disputes".
- Posts that answer questions. One clear question per post, answered with your real numbers. Articles and long posts are easier to quote than a photo with three words.
Reddit is a source AI tools read heavily, and both Google and OpenAI pay for structured access to it. Google announced access to Reddit's Data API on 22 February 2024. Reddit announced on 16 May 2024 that OpenAI "will bring Reddit content to ChatGPT" through the same API. Ahrefs found Reddit at 7.4% of AI Overview mentions in June 2025, and Semrush found it among the top five cited domains on ChatGPT, AI Mode and Perplexity in 2025, though ChatGPT's use of Reddit swung a lot: from close to 60% of responses in early August 2025 to about 10% by mid September.
Do Reddit honestly or not at all. Reddit's Rule 2 says: "Participate authentically in communities where you have a personal interest, and do not spam or engage in disruptive behaviors (including content manipulation)." No fake accounts, no posing as a happy customer, no asking friends to upvote. Every subreddit has its own rules on self-promotion. Read them first.
- Have one real person from your business answer questions in your field under their own name, and say who they work for when it is relevant.
- Answer with specifics: a price range, a timeline, what can go wrong. Moderators remove sales pitches; useful answers stay up and get read.
- Watch for threads that name you, and reply politely with facts.
Facebook, X and Snapchat
Facebook. In our UAE study, Facebook was the second most cited social platform (13 of 44 social sources). Fill in the page category, address, hours, phone and website, and keep them matched to your Google Business Profile.
X. Use the same name, a bio with your one line, and a pinned post with your facts. In our UAE study X was cited 6 times. Treat it as a place to keep facts current, not a priority for most local businesses.
Snapchat, for Saudi Arabia and the Gulf. In CST's Saudi Internet 2025 report, 83.6% of people in Saudi Arabia use Snapchat, second only to WhatsApp, against 40.8% for Instagram. Snap's ad tools reported 25.3 million Snapchat users in Saudi Arabia and 5.13 million in the UAE in late 2025 (DataReportal). For a Saudi restaurant, café, salon or shop, Snapchat is not optional. Set up a public business profile with the same name, category, location, hours and phone as everywhere else. In our Saudi study, the AI cited Snapchat 8 times and mentioned it in 3 answers.
Tie it together: the same facts everywhere, linked from your site
This is the part most businesses skip, and it is where social SEO meets website SEO and AI search.
- Match the facts. Name, phone, address, hours and starting prices identical on your website, Google Business Profile, every social profile and every directory.
- Link out from your website. Put your real profile links in the footer or contact page.
- Add Organization schema with sameAs. Schema is a small block of code that tells search engines facts about your business in a format they read easily. Google's documentation describes
sameAsas "the URL of a page on another website with additional information about your organization" and says "you can provide multiple sameAs URLs". List each official profile there, so Google can connect them to your site. - Link back. Every profile should link to your website, ideally to the page that answers what that profile is about.
- Put the facts on your website in plain text. Your site is what AI quotes most. A price only in an Instagram story is a price nobody can cite.
How to measure social SEO
| Where | What to look at | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| TikTok | Search Analytics in Creator Search Insights, where available | How your videos performed in search and what your followers search |
| YouTube | Reach tab, "Traffic source: YouTube Search" card | The exact searches that found each video |
| Insights for each post and reel, accounts reached and profile visits | Which captions bring new people, not just followers | |
| Search your business name and top phrases; check whether your Instagram, TikTok or YouTube posts appear | Whether your social posts are getting into Google results | |
| ChatGPT and Gemini | Ask your fixed list of buyer questions each month and save the cited links | Whether any social post or profile is cited, and whether the facts quoted are right |
| Your website analytics | Referrals from each social platform and from AI assistants, and WhatsApp taps by source | Whether all of this turns into enquiries |
Judge on enquiries, not likes. A video with 400 views from people searching "AC repair Al Nahda" is worth more than one with 40,000 views from people scrolling.

Common mistakes we see
- A clever name nobody searches. "The Glow Lab" with no word for what you do or where.
- Different facts on different apps. Old prices on TikTok, a new phone on the website, a closed branch on Facebook.
- Hashtag walls. Thirty tags that TikTok itself says can work against you.
- Silent videos. No spoken words, no captions, no text on screen, so the app has nothing to read.
- Personal or private Instagram accounts for a business, which keeps every post out of Google.
- Arabic left out in a market where many buyers search in Arabic.
- Treating social as the whole plan. In our UAE and Saudi studies, AI answers sent buyers to Google Maps far more often than to Instagram or Snapchat.

What we don't promise
We don't promise follower growth, viral videos or a number of views. We don't buy followers, likes, upvotes or reviews, we don't run fake accounts, and we don't post as fake customers on Reddit or anywhere else. We don't film your videos on these plans; we make what you film easier to find. And we will tell you plainly if your buyers are not on a platform, rather than fill it with posts.
