Law is where AI is most careful. Claude with live search named no firm on 22% of our 50 questions, the most of the 10 industries in our study, and Gemini from memory on 18%. 8 of Claude's 11 refusals were questions set in JLT, JVC or Jumeirah. In Arabic, each assistant named no firm on 7 of the 25 questions.
The two assistants also named almost entirely different firms. From memory, Gemini named Al Tamimi & Company in 24 of 50 answers, Davidson & Co in 14 and BSA Ahmad Bin Hezeem in 11. With live search, Claude named Alaa Al Jasmi Law Firm most (9, 8 of them in Arabic) and Al Zaabi Law Firm next (6, all Arabic), neither of which Gemini named at all. By our matching, the two shared a firm on only 4 of the 34 questions both answered with names.
Live answers followed the firms that publish Arabic pages for each problem: lawyer-alaa-aljasmi.com was the most cited site in the category, 25 times. And 6 of the 25 English answers were about the United States, because the search read Business Bay as the San Francisco Bay Area and JVC as US places.
What we asked
50 questions in clients' own words, across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ajman. The 25 English questions are tagged by intent: 11 compare, 8 specific, 5 trust and 1 price. The 25 Arabic questions cover the same problems and are tagged "mixed". Eleven of them:

Who AI named
Counts are the number of the 50 answers that named each firm. We joined English and Arabic spellings of the same name (Al Tamimi & Company and التميمي ومشاركوه count as one), so some counts are higher than a count of exact spellings in the data file.

This is the clearest split in our five reports. Memory holds a short list of established firms, led by Al Tamimi & Company, which Gemini named first in 10 answers. Live search found the firms that wrote a page for the exact problem, often in Arabic: Alaa Al Jasmi Law Firm was named first in 6 live answers and Al Zaabi Law Firm in 4. The two lenses put the same firm first only once. Individual lawyers also mattered: one, Dr. Hassan Elhais, came up in 5 live answers (4 English, 1 Arabic) and in none of Gemini's. The study counts firms only, so he is not in the table.
Not a ranking. This is what two AI assistants said on one day, 21 October 2026. It is not our ranking, a review or an endorsement of any firm or lawyer, and it is not legal advice. A firm missing here may still be excellent, and the lists change between assistants and over time.
Where the answers came from
Claude cited 9.28 pages per answer, 464 in all. The sites it used most:

By type, 89.2% of citations were firm and other websites, 4.7% Wikipedia, 3.9% directories, 1.3% news, 0.4% social media and 0.2% review platforms. Not one court, Ministry of Justice or legal affairs department page was cited in the 50 answers, even for questions about costs and procedures.
- Problem pages beat firm pages. The most cited firm site had a separate Arabic page per problem and emirate: personal status, labour cases, divorce, fees, bounced cheques in Ajman. That site alone was cited in 13 answers.
- "Best lawyer" lists carry English answers. 46.5% of English citations had list-style titles. Ranking guides such as Legal 500 appeared, but far less often than "best lawyer" list pages on firm and guide sites.
- Fee questions were answered without firms. On rental dispute costs, the English answer gave hourly rates in US dollars ($100 to $500) and the Arabic one gave the rental dispute filing fee as 3.5% of the annual rent. Neither named a firm. A firm that publishes a clear, dated fee guide fills that gap.

Arabic answers were the thinnest of any language and industry in this series for Gemini: 3.78 firms, against 6.70 in English. Claude's Arabic answers used Arabic pages almost entirely (97.4% of citations), which is why Arabic-first firms led them. The failures, question by question:
- q208 and q222, Business Bay: the live search returned firms in the San Francisco Bay Area and named US firms.
- q217, q220 and q223, JVC: the live answers listed lawyers in New York, Chicago and San Jose, US startup law firms, and a criminal lawyer in Jersey City.
- q218, JLT: the results were US and Canadian firms, and no firm was named.
- q235, q240, q244, q245 and q249, Arabic questions about JLT (أبراج بحيرات جميرا) and JVC (قرية جميرا الدائرية): no firm named. Two said their results were mostly about Saudi Arabia or Egypt. The other two Arabic JLT and JVC questions got one firm each.
So the English failures came from abbreviations and "Bay" in the name, and the Arabic ones from neighbourhoods with few Arabic law firm pages. Both are fixable on a firm's own site.

At the top of the range, 100 clicks on "family lawyer dubai" cost AED 10,502 and on "lawyer dubai" AED 7,957. محامي في دبي (lawyer in Dubai) is the largest Arabic search across our five industry reports, 590 a month on average and 1,000 in July 2026. What a law firm should do
- One page per legal problem. Labour claims, divorce for expats, wills for non-Muslims, bounced cheques, rental disputes, criminal defence. Say which law applies, the steps, a fee range with a date, and who at the firm handles it. That is the shape of the pages live search used.
- Arabic pages for the same problems. Arabic answers were led by firms with Arabic problem pages. Write them in clear Arabic for each emirate you work in.
- Spell out the area. "Business Bay, Dubai", "Jumeirah Village Circle (JVC), Dubai" and أبراج بحيرات جميرا، دبي. Six English answers went to the United States over these names.
- Tie lawyers to the firm. Several live answers led with a person, not a firm. Each lawyer profile should name the firm, its licence details and the courts the lawyer can appear before.
- Inform, don't solicit. Cabinet Resolution No. 8 of 2025 (Article 35) lists a sign at the firm, the firm's letterhead, its own website and its own social media channels as the ways a lawyer may promote. Article 34 bans promotion through intermediaries, false, misleading or fabricated information, and titles on printed materials and signs beyond qualifications, experience and court level. Paid places on third-party "best lawyer" lists are not in that list, so check with your regulator before relying on them.

Method and limits. 50 legal questions (25 English, 25 Arabic), each asked once on 21 October 2026. Lens 1: Claude with Anthropic's live web search tool, all 50 answered, 464 citations saved; the search runs on a US-based index, which likely explains part of the US drift. Lens 2: Gemini Flash-Lite through the Gemini API, without live search, all 50 answered. Every recommended firm was listed with one rule set; directories, government bodies and individual lawyers were left out, so answers that named mainly lawyers count fewer firms.
