AI named a gym, studio, trainer or clinic in every one of our 50 fitness questions, in both lenses: 4.1 per answer with live search and 4.7 from memory. From memory, Gemini leaned on big chains and named Fitness First in 17 of 50 answers. With live search, Claude named Fitness First 8 times and GymNation 6 times, and spread everything else across small studios. No other name appeared in more than 3 of its answers.
Arabic is the weak spot, and it had a strange source. Airbnb was the most-cited website in the whole fitness category, with 30 citations, and every one was in an Arabic answer: listings for personal trainers in Miami and Los Angeles, yoga on South Beach, spas in New Jersey and Hawaii, and studio flats in Dubai Marina. Arabic answers named fewer places (3.4 per answer, against 4.7 in English), and a few drifted to Saudi Arabia.
What we asked AI about fitness and wellness
We wrote 50 questions the way UAE residents ask them: 25 in English and 25 in Arabic, across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ajman. They cover gyms, ladies-only gyms, personal trainers for weight loss, yoga and pilates for beginners, CrossFit, kids' martial arts, physiotherapy after a sports injury, and massage. The English set had 12 comparing questions, 12 about a specific need and 1 about price. The Arabic set mirrors those types. Here are 13 of them, word for word.
| Question | Language | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Best gym in Dubai Marina? | English | Compare |
| Which personal trainer in Sharjah is the best for weight loss? | English | Compare |
| Best ladies only gym in Jumeirah? | English | Specific need |
| Cheapest gym membership in Dubai with a pool? | English | Price |
| Best yoga studio in JLT for beginners? | English | Specific need |
| Top CrossFit box in Ajman | English | Compare |
| Best physiotherapy clinic in Dubai for a sports injury? | English | Specific need |
| Best spa in Business Bay for a massage? | English | Specific need |
| Best pilates studio in Downtown Dubai? | English | Compare |
| Best boxing or martial arts gym in Al Nahda for kids? | English | Specific need |
| أفضل نادي رياضي للسيدات فقط في أبوظبي؟ (Best ladies only gym in Abu Dhabi?) | Arabic | Specific need |
| أفضل استوديو يوغا للمبتدئين في دبي مارينا؟ (Best yoga studio for beginners in Dubai Marina?) | Arabic | Specific need |
| أرخص اشتراك نادي رياضي في دبي مع مسبح؟ (Cheapest gym membership in Dubai with a pool?) | Arabic | Price |
Which gyms and studios did AI name most often?
This table shows how many answers named each business, out of 50 in each lens. We merged branch names and spellings of the same brand, including Arabic and Latin versions. This is what two AI assistants said on one day, 21 October 2026. It is not our ranking and not an endorsement of any business.
| Business | Claude, live search (of 50) | Gemini, from memory (of 50) |
|---|---|---|
| Fitness First | 8 | 17 |
| GymNation | 6 | 7 |
| Gold's Gym | 3 | 7 |
| FitnGlam | 1 | 7 |
| UFC Gym | 1 | 6 |
| Warehouse Gym | 3 | 4 |
| Embody Fitness | 2 | 4 |
| Dreamworks Spa | 2 | 4 |
| Karma Yoga | 0 | 4 |
| Dubai Ladies Club | 3 | 0 |
From memory, Gemini's five most-named brands took 12% of all its mentions. In live search the top five took 6%. Below the chains, the live-search lists were almost all one-off names: a pilates studio in Souk Al Bahar, a CrossFit box in JVC, a yoga centre in Sharjah. Each one was named because a page or a guide matched that exact class and area.
The two lenses shared at least one business on 12 of the 50 questions (24.0%), mostly in English. Of all the names Gemini gave from memory, 16.9% appeared anywhere in Claude's live-search answers. Gemini also disagreed with itself: asked "Best gym in Dubai Marina?" twice, about 20 minutes apart, it put F45 Training first and then The Gym Dubai, and on the Arabic version its two answers shared no names at all.
Notice where GymNation was named: 4 of the 6 live-search answers that named it were Arabic answers. That is not an accident, and the next section shows why.
Where the answers came from
Claude cited 457 pages for these 50 answers, 9.1 per answer.
| Type of source | Share of 457 citations |
|---|---|
| Gym and studio websites and other sites | 75.5% |
| Directories and listings (Bayut, Property Finder, TimeOut, Fresha) | 14.7% |
| Wikipedia | 4.2% |
| Review platforms | 2.0% |
| Social media and forums | 2.4% |
| News and media | 1.3% |
The most-cited sites were ar.airbnb.com (30), bayut.com (26), en.wikipedia.org (19), gymnation.com (16), classpass.com (15), timeoutdubai.com (10), propertyfinder.ae (10), excelproperties.ae (10), uaezoom.com (10) and getfitdxb.com (9). Four things stand out:
- A gym's own blog worked. GymNation's site was cited 16 times in 13 answers: blog posts such as "Best Pilates Studios in Dubai" and an Arabic guide to the best gyms in Dubai (cited in 4 Arabic answers), plus Arabic location pages for Abu Dhabi and JVC. It is the clearest case in our data of a business being read for questions wider than its own product.
- The same blog also misled. GymNation's pages for its Saudi branches pulled two answers to Jeddah. Asked about kids' boxing in Al Nahda, Claude cited a GymNation post on boxing in Jeddah and led with a boxing gym in Saudi Arabia. Asked in Arabic for a personal trainer in Al Nahda, it described GymNation's trainers "at its branches in Jeddah".
- ClassPass and guides drive class questions. ClassPass was cited 15 times, all in English answers. For "Best pilates studio in Business Bay?", 4 of the 9 sources were ClassPass pages. For pilates in Downtown, every source was a guide or list page: ClassPass, TimeOut Dubai, What's On and GymNation's blog.
- Property portals write gym guides. Bayut and Property Finder were cited 36 times in 29 of the 50 answers, through area guides such as MyBayut's "Best Gyms in Deira: Fitness First, Uform Gym & More". Fitness First was then named in the Deira answer.
What this means. Fitness answers are built from guides and lists more than most categories. You need to be in the guides for your area and class type, and your own site needs pages that answer the question directly, in English and in Arabic.
English vs Arabic
| English | Arabic | |
|---|---|---|
| Claude: answers naming at least one business | 100% | 100% |
| Claude: businesses per answer | 4.7 | 3.4 |
| Gemini: businesses per answer | 5.2 | 4.3 |
| Claude: list-style share of cited pages | 55.0% | 38.9% |
| Claude: Airbnb citations | 0 | 30 |
| Claude: Bayut and Property Finder citations | 18 | 18 |
Arabic answers never refused to name someone, and 91.2% of the pages they cited were Arabic. But the Arabic pages were often the wrong ones. Airbnb's Arabic site, ar.airbnb.com, showed up in 11 of the 25 Arabic answers. 28 of the 30 were Airbnb "services" listings for trainers, yoga, massage and physio, the kind a tourist books. The ones that named a place were in Miami, Los Angeles, Bali and towns in New Jersey, Hawaii, Arizona and Florida. The other 2 were short-stay flats in Dubai Marina. Our reading: Airbnb has well-built Arabic pages for "personal trainer" and "massage", and UAE fitness businesses mostly do not, so the search grabbed what existed.
Arabic answers also went off course:
- Asked for a kids' martial arts club in Business Bay (الخليج التجاري), Claude listed clubs in Riyadh, Jeddah and Mecca.
- Asked for a personal trainer in Al Nahda, it described GymNation's trainers in Jeddah.
- Asked in Arabic for a beginners' yoga studio in JLT, it said it found no yoga studio there, pointed to a dance studio in the towers instead, and suggested two yoga studios elsewhere in Dubai.
Three real answers
Best pilates studio in Downtown Dubai?
Claude, live search, named first: THE LAB STUDIOS, Posture, Kure Pilates.
Gemini, from memory, named first: REFORM Athletica, Embody Fitness, The Hundred Pilates Studio.
No studio in common. Every source Claude cited was a guide or list page.
أفضل استوديو يوغا للمبتدئين في دبي مارينا؟ (Best yoga studio for beginners in Dubai Marina?)
Claude, live search, named first: Yoga House, DRYP, NRG Fitness. It said Yoga House classes start "from 100 dirhams" per class. 4 of its 9 sources were Airbnb pages.
Gemini, from memory, named first: RAFA Yoga, Trib3, FitRepublik.
أفضل نادي فنون قتالية للأطفال في الخليج التجاري؟ (Best kids' martial arts club in Business Bay?)
Claude, live search: said it found nothing specific for Business Bay and listed "well-known clubs in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf": one in Riyadh, one in Jeddah and one in Mecca.
Gemini, from memory: named Trifit and WMA.
What it costs to buy this attention instead
If you skip AI answers and pay for the top of Google, this is the price. Figures are average monthly searches and the top-of-page bid range from Google Ads Keyword Planner, UAE, 21 Oct 2026.
| Search | Monthly searches (UAE) | Competition | Top-of-page bid range |
|---|---|---|---|
| gym dubai | 5,400 | Medium | AED 3.11 to 13.05 |
| personal trainer dubai | 1,900 | Medium | AED 10.71 to 38.91 |
| نادي رياضي دبي (gym Dubai) | 10 | Low | No bid estimate |
| physiotherapy dubai | Keyword Planner returned no volume or bid data | ||
A personal trainer click costs about three times a gym click at the top of the range. 100 clicks on "personal trainer dubai" at the top bid cost about AED 3,891, and 100 on "gym dubai" about AED 1,305. Gym demand is steady all year: "gym dubai" stayed between 4,400 and 5,400 searches a month from October 2025 to September 2026.
The Arabic phrase we checked had only 10 searches a month. Arabic speakers may use other words or other platforms. It is not a reason to skip Arabic: in our test the Arabic AI answers still had to find pages, and fell back on Airbnb.
What a gym, studio or wellness business should do
- Get into the guides for your class and area. TimeOut Dubai, What's On, the MyBayut and Property Finder area guides, getfitdxb.com and gymfinder.ae. Keep your ClassPass or Fresha profile complete if you use them. These were most of the sources for "best pilates" and "best yoga" questions.
- Build a page per class type and area. "Reformer pilates in Business Bay", "ladies-only gym in Al Barsha", "kids' boxing in Al Nahda, ages 6 to 12". State the price, the schedule, women-only hours and age groups in plain text. Answers repeated prices such as a ladies' club membership "starting from AED 1,260" and a gym "from 99 dirhams" a month.
- Publish real Arabic pages. This is the biggest gap in the category. Arabic searches found Airbnb because there was little else. GymNation's Arabic pages were cited in Arabic answers again and again.
- Write useful guides, not only service pages. A gym's own "best pilates studios in Dubai" post was a source for a pilates question. A clear guide to your area or class type can be read and quoted.
- Put the city on every page. If you have branches in more than one country, label each page with its city and country in both scripts, so a Dubai question is not answered with your Jeddah page.
- Physio and sports clinics: name the condition. The English sports injury answer led with a clinic described as offering "structured sports injury rehabilitation", and that clinic's own site was among the sources. One page per condition you treat helps more than one general "services" page.
- Check more than one assistant, every month. Ask your 10 real member questions on ChatGPT and Gemini, in English and Arabic, and write down who gets named.
If you want this done for you, our free AI check runs your questions on ChatGPT and Gemini and shows you who gets named instead of you. We don't promise you will be first on every list, because the lists change from day to day.
Method and limits
How we did it. On 21 October 2026 we asked 500 real UAE buyer questions, 50 per industry (25 English, 25 Arabic). Lens 1 was Claude with live web search, which answered all 500 and listed its sources. Lens 2 was Gemini Flash-Lite through the Gemini API, answering from memory without live search; it answered 478 before the free tier's daily limit, including all 50 fitness questions. We coded every business named with one rule set, leaving out platforms and directories such as ClassPass, government bodies, product brands and named people such as individual trainers.
Limits. One day and one run per question, and AI answers change daily. Claude's search runs on a US-based index, which may explain some of the US Airbnb pages. Neither lens is exactly what a person sees in the ChatGPT or Gemini apps. Names were matched with simple rules, so overlaps are lower bounds. We did not check that every named business is open. The full method is in the UAE AI visibility study.
