Why a WhatsApp chat button beats a contact form in the UAE
A contact form asks the buyer to type their details, press submit and wait. In the UAE most buyers already live in WhatsApp, so a form feels like extra work before the real conversation even starts.
A WhatsApp chat button skips that. One tap opens a chat with your number, your pre-filled message is already typed, and the buyer presses send. You get their name and number from WhatsApp itself, and the conversation happens where they will actually see your reply.
The catch: speed. A form lead might forgive a reply tomorrow. A WhatsApp message sent at 9pm expects an answer at 9pm. Our guide to speed to lead in Dubai explains why the first business to answer often wins.
What happens after the visitor taps
The button is a link. On a phone it opens the WhatsApp app; on a desktop it opens WhatsApp Web or the desktop app. The visitor sees a chat with your number and the message you set, and they choose whether to send it. Nothing is sent without them.
From there, it is your job. If the number is a single phone on a shop counter, messages pile up while staff are busy. That is where most chat buttons quietly fail: the button works, the reply does not. A few options, from simplest to most complete:
- Use the free WhatsApp Business app with a greeting message and away message, so every sender gets an instant acknowledgement.
- Move to the WhatsApp Business API so several people can answer from one number in a shared inbox.
- Add an AI front desk that answers first in Arabic or English, qualifies the lead and books a time, with a human taking over when it matters. See AI customer service on WhatsApp.
The 24-hour window, and why a button lead is cheap to answer
When a customer messages you first, as they do from a chat button, a 24-hour customer service window opens on the API. Free-form replies inside that window are free until 30 September 2026. From 1 October 2026 Meta charges non-template messages too, at roughly AED 0.058 each in the UAE (set by Meta, approximate). Marketing templates sent outside the window cost about AED 0.183 each. The UAE WhatsApp rate card has the full list.
A lead who starts the chat is cheaper to talk to than one you chase with a paid template later. Answer while the window is open.
Where to paste the script
You copy one script tag. Paste it once, site-wide, just before the closing </body> tag, or in the footer code area your platform gives you. Menu names below were checked against each platform's help pages at the time of writing.
Shopify
Go to Online Store, then Themes. On your current theme, open the three-dot menu and choose Edit code. Open theme.liquid in the Layout folder, paste the script just above </body>, and save. If you run Shopify with WhatsApp beyond a button, see Shopify WhatsApp integration.
WordPress
The safest way is a header and footer plugin, such as WPCode (Code Snippets, then Header & Footer), and paste into the footer box. Editing footer.php in a classic theme also works, but a theme update can wipe it.
Wix
In your site dashboard go to Settings, then Custom Code under Development & integrations. Click Add Custom Code, paste, apply to all pages, and place it in Body, end. Wix only allows this on a published site with a connected domain.
Webflow
Open Site settings, then the Custom code tab, and paste into Footer code. Publish the site. Webflow only saves custom code on a paid site plan.
Plain HTML
Paste the tag before </body> on every page, or in the shared footer include if your site has one.
Placement and mobile tips
- Bottom right is where people look for chat. Use left only if something else, like a cookie bar or cart button, already sits on the right.
- On mobile, check the button does not cover your Add to cart or Checkout button. Scroll the product page on a real phone before you call it done.
- Write a pre-filled message that tells you the source, for example "Hi, I'm on the pricing page". A plain link carries no tracking, so the message is your attribution.
- Use the number that is actually answered. A button that goes to an unmonitored phone is worse than no button.
Privacy: no cookies, nothing stored
The script sets no cookies, stores nothing in the browser and runs no analytics. It draws the button and bubble, and WhatsApp is only contacted when the visitor taps. Your privacy policy should still mention that chats happen on WhatsApp. Your settings live inside the script tag you copy; we keep no account and no record of your number.
This tool vs paid chat widgets
Prices below are from the vendors' own pricing pages at the time of writing. Check them before you decide.
| Adjoltz chat button | Elfsight WhatsApp Chat | GetButton | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | Free forever | Free up to 200 views a month, paid plans from about $5 a month | PRO about $4.99 a month (billed yearly) or $149 lifetime |
| Branding | Small "Powered by Adjoltz" link, you can switch it off | Free plan shows Elfsight branding, paid plans remove it | Colour, greeting message and similar options sit on PRO |
| Account needed | No | Yes | Yes |
| Cookies and tracking | None set by the script | See vendor's privacy policy | See vendor's privacy policy |
Paid widgets do more: multiple agents, schedules, several channels in one button. If you need those, they can be worth it. If you need one WhatsApp button that looks right, you should not pay monthly for it.
