Guide

Can a small UAE business get recommended by AI? Yes, and here is the data

We asked AI 500 real UAE buyer questions and counted every business it named. When AI searches the web, big names barely dominate. Here is why, and a plan for a business with a small budget.

Yes. When an AI assistant searches the web before it answers, it picks pages that fit the exact question, not the biggest brand. In our study of 500 UAE buyer questions, 81% to 98% of the businesses named in live-search answers were named only once, and the five most-named businesses in each industry took just 4% to 14% of all mentions.

From memory it is different: there, a few big names took 37% to 46% of mentions in real estate, business setup and home services. So a small business should aim at the live-search answers first, with one clear page per real question. Most of that work is free if you do it yourself.

81% to 98%of businesses named in live-search answers were named only once in their industry (Adjoltz study, 21 Oct 2026)
4% to 14%share of mentions taken by the 5 most-named businesses per industry, with live search
37% to 46%share taken by the top 5 when AI answered from memory (real estate, business setup, home services)
87%of the 4,634 pages AI cited were inner pages, not homepages (our count from the study data)

Does AI only recommend the big names?

It depends on how the assistant answers. There are two ways:

We tested both on the same day, 21 October 2026. Claude with live web search answered 500 UAE buyer questions in English and Arabic. Gemini Flash-Lite answered 478 of them from memory, without search. Then we counted how much of each industry's list went to its five most-named businesses.

IndustryTop 5 share of mentions: memory (Gemini)Top 5 share: live search (Claude)
Home services46%10%
Business setup39%13%
Real estate37%13%
Law firms26%14%
Aesthetics and dermatology15%7%
Automotive15%7%
Fitness and wellness12%6%
Dental clinics10%10%
Education and childcare10%7%
Restaurants and cafes6%4%

In home services, memory gave almost half of all mentions to five names, mostly booking platforms such as ServiceMarket, Urban Company and Justlife. With live search, the same five slots took 10%. Only 20.3% of the names Gemini gave from memory showed up anywhere in the live-search answers for the same industry.

The live lists were wide open. In every industry, between 81% and 98% of the businesses named were named once and never again across 50 questions. That is what a small business wants to see: the answer is rebuilt for each question, from whatever pages fit it best.

Why this matters in the UAE. 73.3% of working-age people in the UAE use generative AI, the highest rate in the world, against 18.8% worldwide (Microsoft AI Diffusion Report, Q2 2026). Your customers are already asking AI who to call.

What small businesses actually got named for

Three real questions from the study show the pattern. The answers below are what the assistants returned on 21 October 2026.

QuestionNamed with live searchNamed from memory
AC repair near Al Barsha today?AtoZ Appliances Repair, Jabal Albaz Technical Services, Dubai Cool Experts, UAE Quick, Home Mate DubaiJustlife, Mr. Usta, Urban Company
Affordable part-time maid service in Deira?Hello Cleaner, The Maids, At Doorstep, Excellence CenterJustLife, Urban Company, Helpsters, ServiceMarket
Honest car mechanic near Ajman?Marwat Garage, Car Clinic Garage, Jannat Garage, OBD Auto Garage, Asghar Car Repairing GarageGerman Experts, Apex Auto Garage, Royal Tech Auto Services, Tasjeel

Look at the AC repair answer. The assistant cited 9 pages, and 8 of them were pages about AC repair in Al Barsha, with titles like "AC Repair in Al Barsha" and "Same-Day AC Repair Service in Al Barsha". The first five businesses it listed were the five whose pages it cited first. It repeated what those pages said: same-day repair, free inspection, and the phone and WhatsApp numbers. From memory, Gemini named three booking platforms instead.

The Deira answer named Hello Cleaner first. Its cited page was about maid services in Deira, and the answer quoted its price: "rates starting from just AED 25/hour". The Ajman answer cited two pages from Marwat Garage, its homepage and a page called "Best Car Garage in Ajman", and named it first.

Across the whole study, 87% of the 4,634 pages the assistant cited were inner pages, not homepages, and 79.4% of all citations went to business websites and other sites rather than directories or social media. AI quotes the page that answers the question. For most small businesses, that page does not exist yet.

What the named businesses had in common. A page about one service in one area, with the area in the title, a plain description of what they do, a price or a "from" price, and a phone or WhatsApp number in the text. None of that needs a big brand or a big budget.

Which questions can a small business win?

Not every question is equally open. From the study, in order of how winnable they look for a small business:

  1. Service plus area plus situation. "AC repair near Al Barsha today", "female dentist in Sharjah", "nursery in JLT with good reviews". The answer is built from pages that match all three parts.
  2. Price questions. 22 of the 27 English price questions got an answer that quoted a price in AED. If your page shows a price and a competitor's does not, you give the assistant something to quote.
  3. Arabic questions. Arabic answers named fewer businesses (3.7 per answer against 4.9 in English) and hedged twice as often (11.6% named no one, against 5.2%). When good Arabic pages existed, they were used: 90.2% of the citations in Arabic answers were Arabic pages. Few UAE businesses have them, so the field is thin.
  4. Broad "best in Dubai" questions. Harder. 38% of all citations had a "best", "top" or "أفضل" title, so ranked lists and directories carry these answers. You can get onto those lists, but it takes longer.
  5. Law and real estate. The hardest. Claude hedged on 22% of law questions and 20% of real estate questions, often naming individual lawyers or agents, or pointing to the regulator and the property portals. Here AI wants outside proof before it names a small firm.

The plan: what to do yourself, in order

If your budget is close to zero, do these seven things in this order. Each one is free except for your time.

  1. Write down your 10 buyer questions and check them. Use the words a customer would type, in English and Arabic, with your area. Ask each one on ChatGPT and on Gemini, and save a screenshot with the date. This is your day-one score. About an hour.
  2. Complete your Google Business Profile. Same name as your licence and shop sign, the most specific category, your services with prices where the category allows, real hours including holidays, and the same phone and WhatsApp number as your website. Google says local results depend on relevance, distance and prominence, and that "more reviews and positive ratings can help your business's local ranking."
  3. Write one page per service and area. "AC repair in Al Barsha", not "Our services". Put the area in the title. In the first lines, say what you do, the areas you cover, a "from" price, your hours and how to reach you. Add the questions customers ask you on the phone, with short answers. Ten good pages beat one long page. Google warns against near-copies made only to rank, so each page needs facts of its own: real prices, real jobs, real photos.
  4. Get listed where your industry gets cited. Directories and listings were 9.4% of all citations, higher in some industries: 17.4% in real estate, 15.6% in restaurants, 15.2% in education. Claim your profiles on the directories that show up in your own screenshots, and keep the name, address and number identical everywhere.
  5. Ask every customer for a review. Send your Google review link or show a QR code after every job, to every customer, with the same message. Google's rules ban offering discounts or gifts for reviews, and ban asking only the happy customers. Our page on reviews and AI recommendations covers the details.
  6. Write an Arabic version of your three best pages. Real Arabic text on its own page, not a browser translation. Write the area and city in both scripts ("النهدة، دبي"), because at least 11 of the 250 Arabic answers in our study drifted to businesses in Saudi Arabia when an area name also exists there.
  7. Tag your WhatsApp button and ask how they found you. Give each page's WhatsApp button its own pre-filled first message, and ask every new lead "how did you find us?" That is how you will know when AI starts sending people. Our guide to tracking leads from AI shows the setup.

Then check your 10 questions again after four weeks, on the same assistants, and compare with the screenshots. Change one thing at a time so you can tell what worked.

What is worth paying for

The free plan above works. Where most owners get stuck is scale and routine: writing dozens of good pages a month, fixing technical problems on the site, re-checking answers on a schedule, and counting leads properly. That is the part we sell. Prices are fixed and published:

GrowthAED 8,500 a monthEnglish and Arabic, 40 + 40 questions, re-check every 2 weeks, 200 pages a month, reviews and directory clean-up, mentions on trusted outside sites every 2 monthsBusinesses selling to everyone in the UAE

Every plan has a 3-month minimum, then runs month to month, with no setup fee. Authority, at AED 16,000 a month, is for brands that want weekly checks and monthly outside mentions; most small businesses don't need it. The guarantee is the same on every plan: if you are not named for at least 3 commercial questions on the list you approve within 30 days, we refund 100% of what you paid.

For comparison, Google Ads Keyword Planner (UAE, 21 Oct 2026) shows these top-of-page bid ranges, meaning what advertisers typically paid to appear above the normal results:

Search termMonthly searchesTop-of-page bid, AED (low to high)
ac repair dubai2,90016.00 to 45.00
cleaning company dubai9,90010.42 to 29.38
pest control dubai8,10013.30 to 29.11
car service dubai1,6009.74 to 35.73
dentist dubai2,90031.34 to 160.93

At those bids, AED 4,500 buys roughly 100 to 280 top-of-page clicks on "ac repair dubai" in a month, and then it is spent. Ads are fast and pages are slow, so many businesses run both for a while. Our page on AI SEO vs Google Ads compares them in detail.

Mistakes we see small businesses make

Questions people ask

Do I need a big brand for ChatGPT to recommend me?

Not when it searches the web live. In our study of 500 UAE buyer questions, 81% to 98% of the businesses named in live-search answers were named only once, and the five most-named businesses took just 4% to 14% of all mentions. When AI answers from memory, big names do dominate: 37% to 46% of mentions in real estate, business setup and home services.

Can I do AI SEO myself?

Yes, most first steps are free: check your buyer questions on two assistants, complete your Google Business Profile, write one clear page per service and area with prices, get listed in your category's directories and ask every customer for a review. The hard part is doing it at volume, checking the answers on a schedule and tracking which leads came from AI.

What is the cheapest paid option at Adjoltz?

The AI check is free. The AI Visibility Audit is AED 1,950 one time, and it is 100% credited to month one if you sign within 30 days. The first monthly plan, Foundation, is AED 4,500 a month with a 3-month minimum, then month to month, and no setup fee.

How fast can a small business get named by AI?

No one can promise a date for any single question. What we publish is a guarantee: if you are not named for at least 3 commercial questions on the list you approve within 30 days, we refund 100% of what you paid. In our study, specific local questions were the most open to small businesses.

Is Google Ads a better use of a small budget?

They do different jobs. Google Ads Keyword Planner (UAE, 21 Oct 2026) puts top-of-page bids for 'ac repair dubai' at AED 16.00 to 45.00 per click, and the clicks stop when the budget stops. Pages that AI quotes keep working after the month ends, but they take longer to build.

Which questions should a small business target first?

Narrow ones: your service, your area and a situation, such as 'AC repair near Al Barsha today' or 'honest car mechanic near Ajman'. In our data those answers named small local firms whose pages matched the question. Broad 'best in Dubai' questions lean more on ranked lists and big names.
