Collecting a UAE delivery address that couriers can actually find

The UAE has no general postcode system, tower names repeat across communities, and most checkout forms never ask for the one identifier couriers can actually use. This is why a technically complete address still fails delivery.

Short answer. Ask for building or tower name plus apartment or villa number, offer Makani number as an optional field, and request a WhatsApp location pin inside the free 24-hour window. The pin is free, instant, and more accurate than anything the customer will type. Address confirmation is a utility template at about AED 0.058.

Why UAE addresses fail

Makani, the field nobody asks for

Makani is Dubai's 10-digit geo-addressing system. Every building entrance has one, and couriers can navigate to it directly. Most customers can find theirs on their building entrance plate or in the Makani app.

Make it optional — requiring it will cost you orders, and it does not apply uniformly across all emirates. But when it is present, it removes the ambiguity entirely.

The location pin is the real answer

WhatsApp lets a customer share their location as an attachment. Inside an open 24-hour service window that exchange costs you nothing, and it produces coordinates rather than prose.

The practical flow: your utility message opens with a button, the tap opens the window, and inside the window you ask for the pin as a free-form message. One tap from the customer, no typing, and the driver gets a map point.

The flow

  1. Utility template on order. Show the address you already hold, formatted, with two buttons: Correct and Change.
  2. On Change — free window opens. Ask for the building name, unit number, and optionally the Makani number or a location pin. All free-form, all free.
  3. Confirm back. Repeat the corrected address so the customer sees exactly what the driver will get.
  4. Dispatch message. Include the address again alongside the courier and the delivery window.

Showing the address back for one-tap confirmation, rather than asking the customer to retype it, is the whole trick. People will tap to confirm. They will not retype an address.

Where this matters most

Anywhere a failed delivery costs you twice: cash-on-delivery e-commerce, where the parcel comes back and the sale is usually lost — see COD confirmation on WhatsApp — plus furniture and white goods with a two-person delivery, home services dispatching a technician, and anything perishable such as flowers, cakes and catering.

What we are not claiming

We have not measured a failed-delivery reduction on our own accounts and will not quote one. What we can say is that on a UAE account we run, 11.7% of contacts replied to messages, which is the responsiveness an address-confirmation flow depends on. If a vendor quotes you a specific reduction figure, ask for the sample size.

Adjoltz builds these flows for UAE brands on Meta's official Cloud API — correct template categories, the buttons, and the inbox behind them. Messages at Meta's rate with zero markup, from $149/month.

Frequently asked questions

How do I collect a UAE delivery address on WhatsApp?

Send a utility template showing the address you already hold with Correct and Change buttons. If the customer taps Change, their tap opens a free 24-hour service window in which you can ask for the building or tower name, the apartment or villa number, and optionally a Makani number or a shared location pin, all at no message cost. Then confirm the corrected address back to them.

What is a Makani number and should I ask for it?

Makani is Dubai's 10-digit geo-addressing system, with a unique number for each building entrance that couriers can navigate to directly. Ask for it as an optional field rather than a required one, because requiring it will cost you orders and it does not apply uniformly across all emirates. When a customer provides it, it removes address ambiguity completely.

Can customers share their location on WhatsApp?

Yes. WhatsApp supports sharing a location as an attachment, and inside an open 24-hour service window that exchange costs nothing. It is the most accurate option available because it produces coordinates rather than text, and it requires one tap from the customer instead of typing an address.

Is an address confirmation message marketing or utility?

Utility. It relates to an order the customer already placed, so it does not require marketing opt-in, it costs around AED 0.058 rather than roughly AED 0.183, and it is not exposed to Meta's marketing frequency cap.
